The fire took place around 430 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 1042 Iranistan Ave., a three-floor rooming house, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the department.

Responding firefighters reported heavy fire from the rear of the building on the second and third floors, and one man hanging from the third-floor window, Jones said.

The Rescue Company was able to remove the victim with a ground ladder, he added. He was then transported to the hospital for evaluation with unknown injuries.

A second alarm was called due to the amount of fire and the high humidity fanning the flames, officials said.

Eventually all firefighters were evacuated from the building and exterior operations were put into action. Three firefighters were also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Red Cross officials were contacted to help the displaced residents.

The fire is currently under investigation with the Fire Marshals Office.
